Understanding DPF Issues
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is one of the most commonly problematic components on modern heavy-duty trucks. When the DPF becomes clogged, it triggers warning lights and can severely impact engine performance.
Common DPF Fault Codes
- P2002 – DPF efficiency below threshold
- P2452 – DPF differential pressure sensor circuit
- P244A – DPF differential pressure too low
Step-by-Step Diagnosis
- Connect your diagnostic tool to the OBD-II or HD port
- Read active and stored fault codes
- Check DPF soot load percentage (should be below 80%)
- Monitor exhaust back pressure values
- Initiate forced DPF regeneration if soot load is between 80–100%
When to Replace vs Regenerate
